I LOVE TOKYO Launches today!!!

And now for the moment you’ve all been waiting for…(drumroll)…Ginch Gonch has finally unveiled it’s much-anticipated I LOVE TOKYO collection.

Inspired by Tokyo street fashion and japanese-inspired illustration and design, I LOVE TOKYO is a tribute to one of the most fashionable cities in the land of the “rise in some”.

Gonchzilla

We are now 3 days away from the official launch of I LOVE TOKYO, a Japanese-inspired collection by  the world’s cheekiest-and your favorite- underwear brand. We thought it only fitting to share with you a little tatse of Japan’s cinematic B-movie legacy, Godzilla, in anticipation of Ginch Gonch’s own Gonchzilla undies, coming out next week.

For you film nerds out there, we thought we’d share the epic opening lines from this vintage classic:

Haraju…what?

This morning I woke up, put on my Ginch, dyed my eyebrows pink, and jumped into a one-piece neon-green bubble wrap leisure suit.

I’m officially obsessed.

In the spirit of our upcoming I LOVE TOKYO collection, Ginch Gonch has promised to share an interesting aspect of Japanese culture with you daily. It’s now day 3 and we proudly present to you a snapshot of one of the coolest and crazyest aspects of popular culture in the land of the rising sun, Harajuku style.

There’s more to Harajuku than Gwen Stefani and her Seven dwarves (yeah…we know there are 4 but it sounds funnier this way). This youth subculture sees hundreds of teenagers congregate near Harajuku Station in Tokyo every Sunday to show off their unique fashion sense in the most outrageous way. 

Harajuku styles has many sub-categories from “Ganguro” to “Gothic Lolita” and has been going strong since the 1980s. We’re not too sure what they put in the cool-aid over there, but whatever it is, we want in.

Domo arigato Mr. Roboto

It is now Day 2 in our 7-day countdown to the launch of our I LOVE TOKYO collection, and the Ginch Gonch wieners have discovered yet aother cool thing about Japan: vending machines!

We’re not talking about your regular ole’ run-of-the mill soda pop dispenser, we’re talking about buying fresh vegetables, DVDs, alcoholic beverages, warm meals, underwear, porn mags and even live lobsters in these bad boys.

Japan is a vending machine free-for-all with more machines per capita than any other country in the world. The only thing that could be cooler than dinner and a movie for a handful of change on the sidewalk is access to your favorite Ginch, street-side, in one of the coolest cities in the world.

Pokin’ Pocky

In anticipation of Tokyo Fashion Week and Ginch Gonch’s upcoming launch of the I LOVE TOKYO collection next Monday, March 22nd, the wieners will be sharing something cool and Japanese with you on a daily basis.

To kick-start the countdown, we would like to pay homage to one of our fave Japanese delicacies, Pocky (pronounced “pock-ee”), mini pretzel sticks dipped in chocolate.

These yummy cookies are offered in dozens of shapes and sizes to please a variety of tastes. Epicurious flavors are so sexy they’re almost Ginchy and include: banana, coconut milk, almond crush café au lait, melon, chestnut and tsubu-tsubu kiwi (not sure what this last one means but we slipped it in there ’cause it sounds cool). 

Pocky also offers gender-specific cookies such as “men’s bitter chocolate”. Now guys across the globe can stuff their faces with long, slender, chocolate-dipped sticks in public without being too concerned about compromising their masculinity.

Fashionanigans

The Ginch Gonch wieners recently returned from their bi-annual pilgrimage to wonderful Las Vegas for the MAGIC fashion trade show. The focus of the trip was of course to engage in tom foolery and ballyhoo of the highest degree, and as per this objective, the wieners succeeded beyond anyone’s wildest imagination.

Our models practiced their catwalk skills as Ginch Gonch beach balls ricocheted off craniums from all corners of the convention center. A makeshift bowling alley was created in the center aisle of the show and fun was had by all.

Of course, when there was time between having too much fun and taking in the surrounding eye candy, the GG wieners did try to get a little bit of work done by previewing their exciting new I LOVE part II  underwear and loungewear collection for fall/winter 2010.

Below is a little taste of what the MAGIC show, and the city, was all about for us this time around.
